STATE SPEEDWAY SERIES EVENTS HEADLINE ALEXANDRA SPEEDWAY SHOW THIS SATURDAY
This Saturday night Alexandra Speedway entertainment will Include no less than four different state series rounds in competition with club class support bulking up the program. With four state series events race fans will be treated to furious action on track with drivers determined to obtain every point possible. Classes in series round action will be the Production Sedans, Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association, Ladies Standard Saloons, and Open Standard Saloons, whilst Sports Sedans and National Junior Sedans are in support of the series events.
Also, at Alexandra on Saturday the club has made the telephone call to invite Santa Claus to the racetrack and that booking has been accepted. Bring your kids along to see Santa and some terrific racing.
Production Sedans have a series organised by the Speedway Sedans Victoria governing body and the Alexandra event is set to attract cars from Corowa, Wangaratta, Albury, Wagga and Leeton into Alexandra to compete this weekend, in cars with six-cylinder Sedans and limited modifications.
Former two times national champion Stephen Laidlaw, one-time former national champ Chris Lack and former Australia number two Dehne Sparrow are just some of the top ranked drivers that will be in the Production Sedan field. Veterans of the class Rodney Anderson, and Wayne Bourke will be in competition also and all five drivers are capable of a win.
Rhys Lansdown, Alex Cheney, Jack Bear, Andrew Cunningham and Felicity Roycroft are keen to flip the script amongst a list of fifteen drivers.
In Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association series round action in the Blue Shed Series, drivers will come from the same areas plus the Goulburn Valley, is the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association who have a mixture of eight cylinder and six-cylinder cars with engines needing to be engine to make of car. Tom and Ben Schmetzer, Ross Maclean, Mitch Watts, Nathan Shortis, and Justin Ewert are just some of the entrants to keep your eyes on. Over many years Maclean is the benchmark racer in the lineup this weekend, whilst Steve Randall from host club Alexandra is keen to put himself on the podium.
The state series for Standard Saloons in both Ladies and Open classes are also holding rounds this weekend. Drivers to keep an eye out for in the Ladies include long time Alexandra member Sarah Meakins, Caroline Allen, Bree Walker, another club member Courtney Meakins, and Stacey Sheedy, whilst Maddi Capon of the Alexandra club makes her debut in the class in front of the spectators, she completed her junior development in front of, an exciting development for her.
In the Open Standards a former Victorian champion Jacob Vuillermin leads a strong entry list that includes Aaron Meakins another long time Alexandra member, Kacey Ingram, Jack Braz, Harry Cecil, and Andy Evans who are just some of the drivers who will be in amongst the action. Watch for Courtney Meakins who will compete in both the Ladies and the Open Standards. She is more than capable of winning against the lads.
Juniors in competition this weekend include Axel Robinson, Luke Morrison and Cruz Paterson, all of whom are club members. They are up against Zack Erickson, Tristan Jarred, Nathan Miles and Kade Robertson a brand-new racer in the class. Miles won recently at Nyora, whilst Morrison won at Nyora and at Alexandra’s last meeting already this season.
Robinson is very keen to lock in a win this Saturday on home turf to kick start his season early in the summer.Sports Sedans are also in action with Josh Service, David Donnegan, Jack Kershaw in his first Sports Sedan race event, and Robert Garlick will represent Alexandra as they do battle with visiting racers Anthony Ellis, Darwyn Lee, Ben Carrington, Steve Sharam, Daryl Joosten, and Jasmin Molloy.
Donegan has been at the front of the field this season with a win at Alexandra in the class state series round and a great showing at Wangaratta to follow that up.
Service is a threat always when he is in the field and is a former Victorian champion of the class. Robert Garlick is no slouch in the driver’s seat and Kershaw is stepping up from his 1200cc Junior and into a powerful Sports Sedan and there is local interest on how he fairs.
This Saturday racing begins from 4pm on Gordon Street Alexandra with a planned 10:30pm finish, gates open to the public at 9:30am. Enquires can communicated via Facebook messages to the club to race day up until 9.30pm.
Entrance will cost $60 for a family of two adults and three kids aged 10 to 16. An adult ticket is $25, Aged, and Invalid and children aged 10 to 16 is $10 with all children under the age of ten, free.
